How do I know if this attachment will fit my tractor?

INTRO

Choosing the right attachment for your tractor can seem a bit daunting at first, especially if you’re just getting started. But don’t worry, there are only a few main things you need to keep in mind to make sure it fits properly.

Don’t know your tractor specs? We put together a helpful specs lookup site to help you out! CLICK HERE

1. Horsepower

Tractors are generally categorized by their horsepower. Each attachment will have a recommended horsepower range that you’ll want to stay close to. If you have a larger attachment than your tractor is built for – you’ll end up bogging down the tractor. With an attachment that’s built for less horsepower – you may over-torque and break the attachment.

2. 3-Point Hitch Class

Next, look to match the class of the 3-point hitch on your tractor. Having the right connection is important to making sure your attachment will work correctly! For most small landowners and hobby farms – you’ll be looking at a Cat 1 or Cat 2 hitch.

  • Cat 0: Typically found on smaller garden tractors with up to 15 horsepower. These hitches use 5/8″ top link and lift arm pins.
  • Cat 1: Common on small to medium tractors with 15 to 45 horsepower. They use 3/4″ top link pins and 7/8″ lift arm pins.
  • Cat 2: Found on larger tractors with 55 to 95 horsepower, featuring 1″ top link pins and 1 1/8″ lift arm pins.
  • Cat 3: Used on larger tractors with 95 to 100+ horsepower, employing 1 1/4″ top link pins and 1 7/16″ lift arm pins.

3. Width of your Tractor

Lastly, for attachments like tillers, box blades, etc – make sure the attachment is at least as wide as your tractor. This helps you avoid recompacting the soil you’ve just worked on, making your job more efficient.
